Dobby Kalle Popover with Indiesew

Happy Tuesday! Bringing you major chill vibes from Austin, TX with this textured make!

Guys first of all, this was my very first Kalle Shirt and I am in love with it. I was a little intimidated by the popover placket but once I made that initial splice down the middle of the bodice for the placket, I found it easy. I got the Kalle Shirt and Shirtdress printed pattern from Indiesew and decided to trace the pattern so I wouldn’t have to cut it.

Onto the fabric! This Lavender Dobby Double Cloth was part of Indiesew’s Texture Collection. Some of the collection is sold out now, but you can still find this fabric, and a couple of others still in stock.

Let me tell you guys this fabric is a dream to the touch. The little ridges on the design feel exactly like they look. The fabric is rayon based so it has a very flowy and breezy feel to it. Note: I prewashed my fabric and the ridges were more pronounced after washing, which I LOVED. Just a tip if you want a similar texture!

I decided to make the cropped version of the Kalle Shirt, and used the popover collar option on it. I extended the bodice by an inch. The flow of the fabric, it being less structured, produced such an interesting result in the way it falls. The hem almost looks squared/flared out. I love the way it fits. And it has the weight of quality, with the breeziness of rayon.

Some notes:

I don’t recommend using a pattern with a lot of manipulation involved, that being ironing, folding etc with this fabric. Try to stick to patterns with simple construction or easy details and silhouettes that complement a flowy fabric with a breezy design. I feel like this fabric would make a really cute Roscoe Blouse!

For buttons, I found some covered buttons from an Etsy shop to match the fabric.

I paired this top with my Morgan Jeans because Closet Case Patterns were born to be together. I’ll definitely be making more Kalle’s in the future now that I’ve conquered my placket fear.

Thanks again Indiesew for an awesome sewing experience!

This project was made in collaboration with Indiesew. The fabric and the pattern were provided by Indiesew but all thoughts and opinions are my own
